Fossil Ridge Faculty >> Language Arts >> Mrs. Munro
For the past 24 years, Mrs. Munro has been teaching middle school age students, and yes...she still has patience and a sense of humor! She started her teaching career in 1984 after graduating from
Brigham Young University with a major in English and a minor in Journalism. For just a brief moment, Mrs. Munro considered working for the national parks service or as a newspaper reporter, but the ever
present desire to teach brought her to Valley Junior High in West Valley City, Utah. With more students than available classrooms, Mrs. Munro found herself as a roamer---hurrying from one classroom to the next
just like her students with a "home base" desk in the home economics office.
When an opening at Granite Park Junior High in Salt Lake City became availble, Mrs. Munro made the move for only one reason---she would have her own
classroom! She stayed there for ten years teaching English to seventh, eighth, and ninth graders. During these Granite Park years, Mrs. Munro
also taught in the Title I program and became the school's Title I Specialist creating English and reading curriculum, training teachers and aides, and assessing and disciplining students. While teaching at Granite Park, Mrs. Munro was fortunate to be honored as the
South Salt Lake Educator of the year in 1992. Even though she enjoyed the Title I work, Mrs. Munro missed being in the classroom and her husband grew tired of the cold northern Utah winters so...they moved to Southern Utah where Mrs. Munro taught all three grades
at Snow Canyon Middle School. When Lava Ridge Intermediate opened, she was the first teacher to voluntarily make the move; as one can see, seventh graders are her favorite! Two years later, Mrs. Munro decided to help open Fossil Ridge Intermediate School as well.
After transfering four times and teaching at five schools, she has chosen to stay here until retirement or when she becomes grouchy---whichever happens first!
